In accordance with the laws of kashrut in the Constitution of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, Temple Emanu El maintains a kosher (meat) kitchen. We are pleased to offer weekly kosher kiddush luncheons, monthly Family Shabbat Dinners, and a light oneg on alternate Shabbat evenings following services.
It is possible to keep kosher in Northern Nevada. Most markets in the Reno-Sparks area offer a distinct kosher food section as well as an assortment of Passover foods. Kosher chicken, turkey, challah, and Herzog wines are availabale at Trader Joes, which also prints a flyer detailing their kosher food items and available hekshers. Kosher wines are also available at Ben's Fine Wine and Spirits and at Whispering Vine Wine Company. Western Kosher in Los Angeles sends orders via truck in conjunction with Chabad of Northern Nevada. A variety of online kosher food web sites can be accessed for hard to find, specialty and meat products.
