SNUSY Sierra Nevada United Synagogue Youth

Gettin Chai with USY

For all Jewish high school teens in Northern Nevada regardless of family synagogue affiliation.

USY is a Jewish high school youth group of United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. SNUSY is affiliated with Congregation Emanu-El, but includes teens from all synagogues and unaffiliated families. Besides Reno and Sparks, we’ve had members as far away as Elko, Gardnerville, and Susanville. We are in the New Frontier Region, which is based in the Bay Area and composed of chapters from throughout Northern California.

SNUSY programs include:

  • Chapter events – Monthly Shabbat Dinner & Discussion, sukkah building, Chanukkah lighter – Latkas & Vodkas party, Purim Party, Lag b’Omer bar-b-cue, and more
  • Inter-Chapter events – Hosting other chapters for our annual camping Shabbat in the Sierras and SNUSY Ski Weekend, and road trips to other Inter-Chapter events in Northern California
  • Regional events – Weekend road trips for Fall Kinnus, ISS, and May Convention in various Northern California settings
  • Special events – USY members sign up for events organized by the International office in New York, like this year’s Winter Break International Convention (IC) in Atlanta,  a summer cross-country bus trip (USY on Wheels), and summer programs in Israel  (Pilgrimage)

Intrepid advisors: Lynn Pierce, who has been involved in leading SNUSY over many years, and David & Lynn’s adult son, Josh Pierce, who grew up with SNUSY and has been a Co-Advisor since he returned from the Young Judea Year Course Program in Israel in 2006.  Contact us by cell – Lynn at 775-233-4110 or Josh at 775-527-3462 – or send us an email.
